This series of five paintings grew out of my experience with Shamanic Studies and my personal relationship with the teachings of the Medicine Wheel—an Indigenous framework used in many Native traditions to explore balance, cycles of life, and interconnectedness. Often understood through directional energies and phases of growth, the Medicine Wheel is not a single, fixed system, but a living teaching that adapts across cultures and lineages.
I approached the Medicine Wheel as an experiential guide that deepened my awareness of life’s rhythms and transitions. Through focused study, its cyclical nature and teachings naturally entered my intuitive studio practice, where meaning reveals itself through process. Rather than illustrating the Medicine Wheel literally, each painting reflects an energetic response through layered abstraction, shifting palettes, and moments of tension and release. Together, the five works form a contemplative series that honors ancient wisdom while leaving space for personal interpretation and lived experience.
